Anthropology and the CIA

From Inside Higher Ed:
New federal fellowships aim to provide government support for graduate
work in anthropology (and other fields helpful for understanding global
cultures) in return for pledges of working for the government. This
year, the Central Intelligence Agency posted some job ads on the
American Anthropological Association Web site, and when the CIA tried
to have those ads appear in the association’s journals, some took them
and others turned them down — amid considerable debate among members.

Virtual Anthropology in the Business World?

Market trend spotter trendwatching.com lays out its take on Virtual Anthropology.
"...'observing' and 'inspiration' are at the core of what trend watchers
do, and that many of their activities could be described as a 'diet'
(or in Europe: 'light') version of anthropology."

About trendwatching.com:
"trendwatching.com is an independent and opinionated consumer trends
firm, relying on a global network of 8,000 spotters, working hard to
deliver inspiration and pangs of anxiety to business professionals in
120+ countries worldwide."
